A bad man to say the least but an interesting photo change

Today the Hague accused Sudanese Presidetn Omar AlBashir of genocide in the case of Darfur. This is after a delay lasting years from calls accusing the government in regards to the situation in Darfur.
He was accused of 10 charges: three counts of genocide, five of crimes against humanity and two of murder. Judges are expected to take months to study the evidence before deciding whether to order al-Bashir's arrest.

There is no doubt that this man has had a hand in a terrible reign of genocide and the ethnic cleansing of the Sudanese tribes. 

However what I could not help but take note of this morning was the change in protrayal in photos alone of this man on Yahoo's front page as well as a shift on other websites. 

BBC also used the first photo but so far it has remained on their site while American sites seem to be switching to the second, photos of Darfur itself or no photo at all. What effect does the switch in photo have if the story is seen at all? Just a thought but i'd love to hear your comments as there are instances in our media of this every day.
